Watch Toronto Post-Hardcore Unit Sparrows' New Video for "Fifth Helena Drive"
Published Jun 27, 2019Toronto post-hardcore act Sparrows are preparing for the release of their upcoming record, Failed Gods, but first, they're dropping a video for their latest single "Fifth Helena Drive."
The song's hard-hitting tones are coupled with some haunting melodies reminiscent of influences such as Deftones or Norma Jean. Lead vocalist and guitarist Dan Thomson explains in a statement they intended to write a song heavy enough to pick up the pace of their live shows.
"'Fifth Helena Drive' was made for the stage. We had every intention when working on the song, of being able to drop it into any set and bring the ruckus," Thomson said. "It's strange because this song came out kind of in the middle of the writing of the record, but really felt like a transitional song for us. But at the end of the day, it's a really darkly themed song that we were able to make into a tone-setter."
Thomson further said the video — shot at Toronto's Sneaky Dee's — should feel all too familiar for any regularly touring bands as they give their all to an empty room.
"Sparrows has always been a live band, but we wanted to try and bring a little dark humour to the usual live video," he explained. "Anyone who has been on the road in the last few years with any regularity will likely relate to the vibe of this video. It's sadly a little too real, nowadays."
The band are also headed out on a North American tour starting next month which you can see the dates to below. Watch the video below and pre-order their album here.
