Valerie Flourish Festival, Fredericton NB, April 27
Published Apr 28, 2019Kicking off the Saturday night (April 27) Flourish schedule at Fredericton's legendary Capital Complex was Valerie, who emerged from Nova Scotia for a rare performance ahead of their debut album. The band conjured a wall of dreamy, reverb-drenched noise from the get-go, overlaid with the smooth and slow-to-decay vocals of Palmer Jamieson.
Neatly tiled guitar mosaics formed a shoegaze glow around him on set-opener "Twin Flames," the new single from Valerie's forthcoming record, expected later this year. "Gold Ribbon" found the band's lockstep rhythm section bolstering textural leads in a driving verse, before giving way to post-rock guitarmonies and an echoing chorus of "Would you save it all?"
