Published Jun 01, 2020NOFX and Frank Turner have announced plans to team up on a new split album, which will see the artists covering each other's tunes. The record, titled West Coast vs. Wessex, arrives July 31 via NOFX frontman Fat Mike's Fat Wreck Chords.
Today, the artists have shared two songs from the album, NOFX's cover of Turner's "Thatcher Fucked the Kids" and Turner's cover of NOFX's "Bob," alongside accompanying new music videos.
"I listened to all his records, and I picked the ones that I thought I could make more interesting," Fat Mike explained of the collaboration in a statement. "What I did is change a lot of chords. Frank, he beats me in the singing department. So I can't sing better than he can, but I can maybe throw in a melody here or there or chord that he hadn't thought of."
Speaking on the collaboration, Turner noted that he didn't want to release just plain old covers, rather he preferred to mix things up a bit.
"It did strike me that it would be cool to demonstrate to the casual NOFX fan, who doesn't know who I am, that I am actually a fan," he said. "I didn't just go to Spotify and pick the five most-listened-to songs."
Alongside the release, Fat Mike has also announced plans to virtually participate in the 545 AIDS/Lifecycle charity bike ride challenge, which aims to fundraise for LGBTQ+ individuals in need of HIV/AIDS medical care and testing. He is asking fans to submit 545 songs that he can cycle to in order to raise money for the cause.
