Edmonton Rapper K-Riz Mourns Lost Love in 'What a Shame' Video
Last December, Edmonton rapper K-Riz shared his journey of healing after a car accident with his The Room EP, which led to him being named one of Exclaim!'s New Faves in January. Before he follows it up with new material, he's treated EP track "What a Shame" to a new video.

The multi-part video, directed by JDats, finds K-Riz and co-star Leanne K exploring a failed romance, set to a trippy series of backdrops. The song's eclectic production — seamlessly transitioning from buttery R&B vocal hooks to rapid-fire trap verses and a slower, sparser finale — is reflected in the many competing aesthetics, including pink- and purple-hued backgrounds, retro filters and natural imagery like the moon, the sea, roaring flames and a foggy, moonlit night.

In a press release, K-Riz said on "What a Shame," "It's about wanting to take responsibility for relationships breaking down. Rather than making a song about being a victim, I wanted to own my wrongs."

K-Riz's forthcoming sophomore album, Peace & Love, is due later this year. Until then, check out the "What a Shame" video below.
