'The Bachelor' Star Colton Underwood Comes Out as Gay
"I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it"
He came out during an episode of Good Morning America, telling host Robin Roberts, "I've run from myself for a long time. I've hated myself for a long time. I'm gay, and I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it."
Underwood revealed having thoughts of self-harm and suicide, which eventually led to him coming to terms with his sexuality. Underwood is also devoutly religious.
"I got closer to God this year," he said. "I used to wake up in the morning and pray for Him to take the gay away. I used to pray for Him to change me. I can now wake up and pray to God and have faith and go into church and be present and not have it be conditional."
Prior to The Bachelor, Underwood also appeared on The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise. After starring on The Bachelor, he dated the show's Cassie Randolph from 2018 until 2020; she filed a restraining order against him, saying that he had stalked her and harassed her.
